1. General rules

These rules apply to Skyss buses in Vestland, the Bergen Light Rail and the following boat services in Vestland:

  • Askøybåten – boat service between Kleppestø and Strandkaiterminalen in Bergen
  • Nordhordlandsbåten – boat service between Knarvik/Frekhaug and Strandkaiterminalen in Bergen
  • Florabassenget – the boat services Florø–Askrova–Stavang–Svanøy and Florø–Barekstad–Batalden–Fanøy–Rognaldsvåg–Kinn

Vestland County is split into ten fare zones, and prices are based on the number of zones you travel through. The fare charts show the current fares. For all tickets, a maximum fare applies after four or more zones. All fares are rounded to the nearest krone.

Special rules on ticketing, discounts, fares and purchasing apply to the airport express services in Førde and Sogndal (see Section 6).

When taking a vehicle on a boat, special rules on discounts and payment methods apply (see Section 8).

1.1 Tickets/ID

You must be able to show a valid travel document to the staff and ticket inspector at any time during your journey. Travel documents comprise a valid ticket for the route and time of boarding, and valid ID for any discounts (ID, student card, concessionary card, etc.). If your journey involves an interchange and your ticket expires before you board the next service, you must buy a new ticket. All discounts apply regardless of country of residence and nationality.

The ticket format may vary depending on where the ticket was bought:

  • The Skyss Billett app: The ticket is in the app.
  • The skyss.no website: You can choose between adding the ticket to your Skyss card, printing it or receiving it by e-mail or SMS.
  • Ticket machine: The credit/debit card you pay with also serves as a ticket. You can also request to receive the ticket by SMS.
  • On board: You will be given a paper ticket. If you pay by credit/debit card on boats or buses in the former county of Hordaland, the card also serves as a ticket.
  • Customer service centre at Bergen bus station: You will receive a paper ticket if you buy a single or 24-hour ticket. To buy a season ticket, you must have a Skyss card.

1.1 Boarding

In the Bergen area

On the Bergen Light Rail, you cannot show your ticket to the driver. When travelling by bus or boat in the Bergen area, you do not need to show your ticket when boarding. You can board using either the front or rear doors of the bus. However, if you are travelling on a bus or boat that continues outside the Bergen area, you will need to show your ticket when boarding.

Outside the Bergen area

Outside the Bergen area, you must always show your ticket when boarding a bus or boat. When travelling outside the Bergen area with a pram/pushchair, luggage or a bicycle, or if you need to board via the rear door for some other reason, you must go up to the driver to show your ticket after boarding. If you use a wheelchair or rollator/walking frame, or for any other reason cannot go up to the driver, they will come to the back of the bus to inspect your ticket.

Wherever you are travelling in Vestland, drivers, crew members and ticket inspectors can at any time request to see your ticket.

1.2 Fare cooperation

Skyss cooperates on fares with other public transport operators. When travelling with another public transport operator, you must be able to show a receipt for a valid Skyss ticket on inspection.

Tickets bought through NOR-WAY’s sales channels are only valid on NW180 Haukeliekspressen and cannot be used on services operated by Skyss. The only exception is if you buy a ticket for Haukeliekspressen from NOR-WAY and the ticket is valid for all or parts of the section Seljestad–Bergen. In that case, you may use your ticket on route 930 operated by Skyss.

In order to be guaranteed a seat on an express coach, you must book in advance. You can do this through the sales channels provided by Vy or NOR-WAY.

If you want a single or another ticket type for an express coach, you must buy it through the sales channels provided by Vy or NOR-WAY.
